My Story

Growing up in New Zealand, I never knew what I wanted to do for a career. I was luckier than some, there was career guidance at my school but none of their ideas interested me. My friend's mother said 'why not be a teacher or a nurse?' but neither appealed. One day my French teacher Mrs Simpson suggested I would make a good accountant. And I thought that's it! I would study accounting at university, get a job with a firm of Chartered Accountants and then see a business of interest, I would also know how to do the books.

And so that's what I did. But it took a very long time to find anything else I was interested in doing. It was only many years later when / In the meantime I was working in the City of London where I had achieved a degree of success but deep down I knew I was in the wrong place. And I had kept searching/looking for work I would enjoy/love, that would use my talents, where I would feel happy and in the right place.

So how did I start doing career coaching?

After many year of exploring, I came across coaching. I started coaching and soon started working with/attracted people who were unhappy in their career. Having been in the wrong place career wise for a lot of my life I could really relate to/empathise with people who are unhappy in their career. And from then on Career coaching was a big priority for me/ I started doing more and more career coaching. VS

After many year of exploring, I came across coaching. When I first started coaching I was focused on the area of relationships. And then I started to notice a primary concern of most people is doing well in their career. And then one of my younger/young clients said to me "how can I be happy in my life/personal life if I am not happy in my career?"

The truth of that and the importance of career (coaching) hit me, after all we are there (at work) from 9-5pm every day (if we are lucky) We spend far more of our waking hours at work than we do with our loved ones. If we are not happy there if has a tremendous impact on our life.
With my background too, I could really empathise with being unhappy in your career. I soon started working with/attracted people who were unhappy in their career.

When I first started coaching I was focused on the area of relationships, because I felt I needed to focus on one area to start with. if career was 95 for love was 100.
